Präteritum Regular
O Präteritum é um passado narrativo, comum na escrita e na fala do norte, enquanto os falantes do sul tendem a usar o perfeito na conversa. sein e haben mantêm o seu Präteritum mesmo quando, de outra forma, se evita o pretérito.
Er war müde, aber er hatte keinen Kaffee mehr. — He was tired, but he had no more coffee.

Perfekt Regular
O Perfekt é o passado do dia-a-dia para eventos concluídos: auxiliar haben ou sein mais o particípio, sendo sein utilizado para a maioria dos verbos de movimento, vir/ir e alguns verbos de mudança de estado.

Futur I Regular
O Futuro I é utilizado para previsões, promessas firmes e também para expressar probabilidade sobre o presente em alemão coloquial. A fala do dia a dia utiliza frequentemente o Präsens mais uma expressão temporal em vez disso.

Futur II Regular

Outras formas
Imperativ Regular
O imperativo utiliza as formas du, ihr e Sie de comando; a forma informal du elimina o -st do presente para muitos verbos fortes, e os verbos com prefixo separável colocam o prefixo no final.
